Foundation donates RM400,000 to feed starving children

KUALA LUMPUR – The Perdana Global Peace Foundation (PGPF) contributed RM400,000 to the NSTP-Media Prima Tabung Bencana at an event in Sri Pentas last Friday.
The event also hosted Mercy Malaysia, which will be sending missions to help famine victims in Somalia. PGPF chairman Tan Sri Norian Mai said the main purpose of the donation was to provide food to the Somalian children.
Norian said there would be eight representatives from Malaysia leaving for Mogadishu around the second week of January next year. Two of them would be from PGPF, three from Media Prima and another three from Mercy Malaysia.
“The representatives, as well as members of the media going to Somalia, will be trained before leaving.”
Mercy Malaysia executive director Zahrah Yaacob said their mission to Mogadishu would last for three months.
Zahrah said Mercy Malaysia would also conduct educational and awareness programmes in Mogadishu. “In addition to the programmes, food items, such as rice, cooking oil and sugar will be distributed to about 3,000 families, categorised as internally-displaced people. “We believe they are in need of such items. ”
PGPF project manager Shamsul Azhar said the foundation had already contributed RM577,103 as of Nov 17, which had been channelled in previous missions.
“In addition to today’s (yesterday) RM400,000, there will be a further contribution of RM 297,252.”
