New online award for top artistes

SUBANG JAYA – ANUGERAH Bintang Popular Berita Harian (ABPBH) 2011 will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year by introducing five new online award categories and a special Seri Perak award to honour the most popular artiste.
The new categories include the “Most Popular Asian Artiste/Celebrity”, “Most Stylish Male/Female Artiste” and “Most Popular Online Male/Female Artiste”, bringing the total number of awards to 21.
ABPBH organising committee co-chairman Hanizam Abdullah said the move was to attract younger voters. She said the Seri Perak Award would honour the most popular artist who had won the ABPBH awards since it started in 1990.
“Korean pop music is very popular with the youth right now, so we came up with the Most Popular Asian award, with bands such as Super Junior in the nomination list,” she said, adding that unlike the rest of the categories, fans could vote for the online categories only on the ABPBH website.
The inaugural readers choice awards will embark on a tour on Feb 25 and 26 at SACC Mall, Shah Alam and end with a mini carnival at Plaza Angsana, Johor Baru on March 24 and 25.
“The tour will help bring the finalists and fans together, as the fans are the ones who will decide on the winners,” she said after announcing the top five finalists for every category yesterday.
ABPBH 2011 will be held on April 8 with the theme “Celebration” at the Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands and will be aired live on TV3 and Hot.FM.
