TNB sponsors NST for 5th year

PORT DICKSON: STUDENTS of 27 schools can continue using newspapers as an education tool, thanks to Tenaga Nasional Bhd.

The company is sponsoring 88,560 copies of the New Straits Times under the NST’s Newspaper in Education programme.

This is the fifth year that TNB is sponsoring the newspaper for schools.

TNB corporate affairs vice-president Adelina Iskandar presented a mock cheque for RM88,560 to NST group editor Datuk Syed Nadzri Syed Harun at the TNB condominium resort here yesterday.

Present was TNB community affairs head Ahmad Zaki Rasid.

Adelina said the firm hoped the contribution would help students use the newspaper as a learning tool during English lessons.

“Realising the importance of the English language in today’s global world and employment sector, we believe that starting the children early will boost their proficiency in the language.”

She added the newspaper would help the students keep abreast of local and world news, as well as expanding their vocabulary.

Among the schools that will receive the newspaper are SK Guar Nangka in Kangar, SK Kuala Nerang in Kedah, SK Jalan Matang Buluh in Perak and SK Paka in Terengganu.

These schools will receive 10 copies of the NST each from Monday to Friday.
