The oldest newspaper in Malaysia traces its roots back to a weekly journal printed in 1845. Then the Straits Times, it has gone through several transformations most significantly, the name change to New Straits Times and downsize from a broadsheet to a compact version. Its strong conviction for a stable, progressive nation-building brings to its audience a rich editorial content that has garnered huge following of movers and shakers, and key decision makers, paving the way to a united and progressive Malaysia.

Humanitarian Relief Mission to Bangkok

The troops at NSTP rallied together earlier this year when neighbouring Thailand was hit by floods earlier this year. NSTP along with its parent company Media Prima Berhad and a group of sponsors (Proton Holdings  Berhad, Felda Global Ventures Holdings Berhad, Adabi Consumer Industries Sdn Bhd, Public Gold Marketing Sdn  Bhd, Nikon (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Shell Lubricants and  Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas)) went on a six-day mission to Bangkok to deliver RM60,000 worth of goods to the flood victims.

The Tabung Bencana NSTP-Media Prima humanitarian team also put some cleaned affected houses and mosques and repainted a school.

Harian Metro Titipan Kasih

This annual event has taken on different forms; from kenduris, gotong-royongs, and donations to underprivileged families and children during the month of Ramadhan.

This year, we changed the format slightly. Instead of a one-off assistance, we give monthly assistance to the less fortunate.

NSTP Charity Fund

It's bad enough being ill. But being ill and not being able to afford medical treatment, now that is a crime. This was why the NSTP Charity Fund was set up 19 years ago. Since then, we have given out RM3.9 million to help poorly children suffering from heart problems and cancers and also the disabled.

This fund is close to our heart. We work with corporate bodies, small businesses, doctors and most importantly the readers who support it financially.

Visits to Orphanages & Old Folks Home

Always remember those less fortunate. This is why visits to various homes in Malaysia are important to us so we can bring some love, joy and company to these lovely people. In return, they teach us humility, generosity and respect.

4.2 Education
The New Straits Times English Development Programme (EDP) 2012

We are old skool. We believe newspapers are tools for learning. In this initiative, the NST becomes a textbook for students and teachers alike. The aim is to bridge the urban-rural divide when it comes to learning the English language.

We welcome corporate bodies and individuals to be a part of this programme. Sponsorship of the NST complete with educational supplement to any schools in Malaysia of their choosing, ensures that more students will benefit from this programme.

Learning English becomes fun and accessible to all.

Berita Harian Workshops and Seminars

Ace those exams: these seminars and workshops help hundreds of participants to understand and excel in major papers in the UPSR, PMR and SPM. Teachers participate in the additional 'Akhbar Dalam Darjah' workshops to learn how newspapers can be a teaching tool in the classrooms.
