Teacher hits student over perfume question

2010/02/09

KULIM: A female student was allegedly struck on the head by a male teacher at SM Lubuk Buntar here on Sunday for asking him whether he was using a perfume.
Nurasyira Zakaria, 13, who was treated for swelling on her head at the Parit Buntar Hospital, lodged a report at the Bandar Baru district police headquarters here on Sunday night.

"It started when the teacher, who was writing on the blackboard, asked who among us was using a perfume. Nobody admitted to using it.

"I then asked the teacher whether he was using one. He took offence and struck me on my head with his hand and a book," she said at her house in Kampung Bukit Tok Gula near here yesterday.

Nurasyira, a Form One student, said she complained to her father, Zakaria Mamat, 50, about the incident when she returned home at 3pm.

She was taken by Zakaria to the Bagan Samak Health Clinic and later the Parit Buntar Hospital before lodging a report at the Bandar Baru district police headquarters.

The teacher was not around when Zakaria, his wife, Piza Mat Saad, 39, and Nurasyira went to the school to get a clarification on the matter yesterday.

Zakaria said the principal told him that the teacher had gone to the district education office in Kulim.

Kulim Bandar Baru district education officer Abu Bakar Md Ali, when contacted, said the case would be investigated. -- Bernama
