As part of corporate social responsibility exercise, both RHB Banking Group and New Straits Times have jointly organized a nationwide spelling competition named RHB New Straits Times National Spell-It-Right Challenge since 2008. The objective of the campaign is to encourage the usage of English in a fun way and to promote the use of New Straits Times as an additional educational learning tool. It is open to both public and private schools that follow the Malaysian Education Curriculum in all 14 states. The competition is divided into two categories; Category 1 for Primary Schools (Year 1 to Year 6) and Category 2 for Secondary Schools (Form 1 to Form 5). There are 3 stages to the challenge; the first stage is the preliminary written test challenge whereby 100 top students that excels in this preliminary stage will then go to stage 2 of the challenge which is the State Challenge. The winners of each state challenge in both the primary and secondary categories will then compete for the national title as Malaysia’s best speller.
