IPOH: The New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd group managing editor and Berita Harian group editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman received the ‘Tokoh Pengamal Media’ award in conjunction with the Perak state level Maulidur Rasul 1445H/2023M celebrations today.
The award named “Anugerah Zaid bin Thabit” was presented by Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah who graced the occasion themed ‘Rasulullah: Mengungguli Peradaban Umat’.
Sultan Nazrin, who arrived at 10am, was accompanied by Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim.
Also present were Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, Raja Puan Besar Perak Raja Nazhatul Shima Idris Shah, Raja DiHilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Idris Shah and Raja Puan Muda Perak Tunku Soraya Abdul Halim Shah.
The others were Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, state executive councillors, department heads, Perak Islamic Religious Department director Harith Fadzilah Abd Halim and Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council president Tan Sri Mohd Annuar Zaini.
The celebration, attended by over 2,000 guests, began with the singing of the Perak state anthem, followed by the Asma’ al-Husna zikir, Al-Quran recitation and translation as well as the ‘selawat’.
Ahmad Zaini, 59, of Kampung Sayong Lembah in Kuala Kangsar, started his career as a journalist with national news agency, Bernama, in 1984 before joining BH in 1991. He was appointed NSTP group managing editor on Jan 11 this year alongside his role as BH group editor.
The celebrations also saw the awarding of the Tokoh Keluarga Mithali (Anugerah Keluarga Ammar bin Yasir), Tokoh Pendakwah (Anugerah Ibnu Abbas) and Anugerah Pertubuhan Bukan Kerajaan (Anugerah NGO). The others included Tokoh Imam, Bilal dan Siak (Anugerah Pegawai Masjid), Anugerah Keluarga Ammar bin Yasir which went to Kasanah Mukkeri, 79, from Kampung Pauh, Behrang Stesyen in Behrang who received RM5,000, a plaque and a certificate.
Retired teacher Zainall Abidin Zulkifli, 72, of Kampung Kuak Luar in Pengkalan Hulu received the Anugerah Pegawai Masjid (Tokoh Imam) while Anugerah Pegawai Masjid (Tokoh Bilal) went to Hamzah Ramli, 70, of Sungai Manik who received RM3,000, a plaque and a certificate. – NST Online
